Chrysler finally agrees to recall almost 3 million vehicles

After months of maintaining that they would not issue a recall to address concerns that certain Jeep models catch fire when struck from behind, Chrysler has agreed to recall a decade of Jeep Grand Cherokees and five model years of Jeep Liberty. Chrysler's last minute decision to issue the recall as recommended by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) helps the company to avoid a public hearing in which affected customers in Virginia and around the U.S. would have aired their complaints, a process that could have resulted in the company being forced to issue an involuntary recall.

Driver charged with involuntary manslaughter after collision

A 35-year-old Salem man is being charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence after a crash on Interstate 581. The 35-year-old was reportedly driving on the interstate in a Ford Taurus when he collided with a tractor trailer owned by R&L Carrier. The driver of the R&L Carrier tractor trailer maneuvered into another lane in an attempt to avoid the Ford Taurus, but in doing so reportedly hit a Fleet Master Express, Inc. tractor trailer.

Putting a price on human life

The purpose of this is to provide compensation to family members who have not only lost a loved one, but have lost financially. Tort law states that the value of a life can be measured by estimating that person's future income.

Many of us own bikes and love nothing more than to get out and pedal for a few hours, but recent research shows that skipping safety precautions can quickly turn a leisurely ride into a traumatic experience.
