Personal injury legal options work to protect a number of different types of victims involved in fatal truck accidents, as well as other types of accidents. A fatal truck accident in Virginia recently claimed the life of a woman. The woman was leaving a gas station after pumping gas when she was hit by a Mack truck that crossed the center double yellow lines as it was going around a curve and turned over onto the woman’s car. The woman died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Mack truck was uninjured and was charged with reckless driving.

The legal process is designed to protect victims in a number of different types of circumstances. Some victims may be negligently injured in a truck accident, for instance, however, others may be otherwise harmed such as in a fatal truck accident. Additionally, the lives of family members of victims are also impacted by the harm their loved ones suffer. When victims have been wrongfully harmed by the negligence of others, personal injury options may be available to them to assist with the damages they have suffered.

Victims who have been wrongfully injured in a truck accident may be able to recover damages including medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering damages through a personal injury claim. Surviving family members of victims of a fatal truck accident may be able to recover damages they may incur, including financial and emotional damages, through a wrongful death claim. In general, a citation or criminal charges against the responsible party is viewed as evidence of the party’s negligence and liability for the harm victims have suffered.

The legal process works to ensure that victims who are wrongfully harmed through an accident or fatal accident caused by another party’s negligence are adequately compensated for the harms they have suffered. Because of the devastating nature of truck accidents, it is helpful for truck accident victims to be familiar with the resources and options available to them.
