Car accidents may be every day events in Virginia and other states across the nation. However, they are not all fender bender and minor incidents. Some car accidents are severe and do not just involved automobiles. Pedestrians and cyclists can be struck, resulting in serious and even fatal injuries. And in some unfortunate accidents, motorists do not stick around the crash site. A hit-and-run accident can cause much harm and pain to those injured, causing many to be left with unanswered questions.

According to recent reports, a cyclist was injured in a hit-and-run crash in Prince George County. Authorities believe that the cyclist was traveling northbound on South Crater Road when the 58-year-old biker was struck by an unknown vehicle from behind. The force of the collision caused the rear tire to break, ejecting the cyclist onto the shoulder of the roadway.

Initially, authorities were unable to locate the driver in this collision; however, due to a tip, officers were able to locate and identify the suspected driver of the vehicle involved in the crash. The investigation is still ongoing at this time, and no charges have been filed. Once complete, officers will be able to determine the cause of the crash.

A hit-and-run accident can make the investigation process more complex following an accident. However, it does not leave a victim hopeless. It is still possible to hold a motorist accountable, and by taking the time to become informed of the process a victim will be prepared to file a personal injury action when and if the motorist is found. This civil action can help address the losses suffered by the victim, attempting to make them whole again.
