Reasons to see a doctor after a wreck

On Behalf of | Sep 2, 2022 | Car Accidents

Ideally, you’ll visit your doctor or go to the hospital as soon as possible after a car crash. If you are unable to drive yourself to the nearest Virginia medical facility, an ambulance can be called to transport you. There are several compelling reasons why you need to seek medical treatment after a motor vehicle wreck.

You don’t know how you feel

Your body will generally mask the pain of a broken bone, internal bleeding or other types of injuries. In some cases, it takes several days or weeks before you may notice the signs of ailments that might limit your ability to sleep, drive or do your job properly. By the time you feel that something is amiss, you may need surgery or other extreme forms of treatment to remedy the situation. By going to the doctor in a timely manner, you may be able to treat problems with rest and an ice pack.

Create a paper trail

Another great reason to see a doctor after a car accident is that it generates a paper trail that can be used during settlement talks or at trial. Medical records may be strong evidence of a link between the defendant’s actions and your injuries. It may also make it easier to verify the extent of your financial losses in the aftermath of the wreck. Typically, you are entitled to reimbursement for most or all of your actual and future medical costs.

If you are involved in a wreck, it’s critical to seek medical treatment as quickly as possible. Doing so may make it easier to establish that another person was responsible for injuries that resulted in medical bills, lost wages or lost future earnings.
