Fatal car crash claims life of pedestrian college student

The roads of Roanoke City and throughout the state can be dangerous for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians. While the majority of people on the road take caution and follow the law, there are inevitable incidents that can lead to injuries and even death. These can happen for a variety of reasons. When there is a fatal accident, the family left behind will have to move forward and deal with the loss of a loved one. It's important that they know what to do in such an incident's aftermath.

A student at Virginia Tech who had been hit by a car died several days after the accident. The 20-year-old was in a rush trying to make her bus at approximately 5:30 p.m. when the fatal car crash occurred. She was hit by a Chrysler being driven by a 64-year-old woman. Police have yet to file charges against the driver, but the investigation continues.

Many issues must be considered after a wrongful death incident no matter its circumstances. A fatality will bring seismic changes to a family. There are personal, practical and financial issues that could arise. If the person who died was the breadwinner, the family left behind might not know how they're going to make ends meet. If it was a parent, the child or children will have to move on without a mother or father.

Regardless of the situation, it must be remembered that insurers are often interested in keeping their costs in line. With that in mind, they might offer a settlement soon after the accident happens to try and avoid a legal filing and large compensation award.

In this incident, a student was rushing to catch her bus when she was hit by a car. After several days, she succumbed to her injuries. Given that she was hospitalized, the family will have medical costs to deal with even before getting to funeral expenses and confronting the loss of a loved one. This accident and others like it need to be investigated with the interests of the victim's family in focus.
