We like to think that all drivers abide by the rules of the road. Although we must go through a driver safety course and pass a driving test to obtain a driver’s license, this does not mean all drivers will follow these rules. Unfortunately, negligence and recklessness find their way onto the roadways, causing numerous accidents each and every day in Virginia and across the nation.

According to reports, a fatal accident recently occurred in Winchester. Based on information from the Virginia State Police, a head-on collision occurred on Papermill Road during the nighttime hours. The accident happened when a pickup truck traveling east on the roadway crossed the centerline. This resulted in the pickup truck striking a westbound SUV head-on.

The driver and front seat passenger of the SUV did not survive the crash. The driver died at the scene, while to passenger died later after being transported to the hospital in serious condition. Two additional passengers in the SUV were injured and were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the pickup truck suffered serious injuries in the crash. An investigation is still ongoing.

When a person is killed in a car accident, their loved ones will have a lot to cope with, both emotionally and financially. This is why in the event of a fatal crash, surviving family members may want to hold the liable party accountable. A wrongful death action not only places liability on the party at fault, but also helps with the pursuit of compensation for losses and damages caused by the incident.
